Excavations Summer/Autumn 2002
Autumn weather has set in with a vengeance and we are lucky if we get one day a week without rain. Excavation continues, weather permitting, otherwise there is a huge backlog of finds washing and marking to do.
Sudden downpours cause mini-floods - this the down side of working outdoors. However, is there a crock of gold at the end of this rainbow? (or perhaps just another crock!).
John McDonald and Dee Riley try the resistivity gear and attempt to locate elusive features.
A dump of raw clay rests on a large slab of heathstone. These in turn overlay the edge of a ditch. The clay is likely to be a remnant from pottery production.
This shallow ditch terminal was filled with waste pottery.
