Middle Bronze Age pottery
Flint working continued throughout the Bronze Age. Huge quantities of worked flint are found all over the site, not only in the excavated areas but also in the topsoil. Post-hole structures and storage pits, indicate occupation. Evidence for agricultural activity is in the form of carbonised grain, spindle whorls, loom weights, animal bone and field boundaries. Bonfire pits were probably used to fire pottery, and other small-scale industries included shale working and metalworking. The excavation has produced enormous quantities of Bronze Age pottery, most of which is likely to have been made on site. To date, two cremation areas have been identified, the first consisted of a small middle-Bronze Age urnfield cemetery and the second, a single late Bronze-Age urned cremation.more...
